life lines

This short video was made on the 29th July this year, a time when the coronavirus lockdown was beginning to be lifted. The brief trips outside of home were always accompanied by a sense of precious time in the public space. With glimpses of the local community and the fragile return to normal everyday life, the movement and the music combine to reflect this experience.

Bristol CI – Warm-up and Class

Contacting the Self

Part 2: Honesty in the Process

The warm-up and class combines elements of Gestalt Therapy and Somatics with a person-centred approach to learning and development.

Together we will explore authentic movement, bringing our attention to postural, muscular and gestural characteristics, loosening up restrictive body rigidities to release potential for the emergence of natural movement impulses. We shall also discuss and explore the movement potentialities of the organs.

Bristol CI – Warm-up and Class

Contacting the Self

Part One: Listening with the body

This warm-up and class focusses on the sensory awareness of the body. Beginning with a series of exercises that bring our attention to inward experiences of movement; the use of breath to relax tension and release oxygen into the bloodstream; the re-energising of our body and mind; creating and responding to stimuli, initiating movement inside the body; extending movement outwards, and into the space.

Contact Based Movement & Improvisation

workshops for dancers & non-dancers

facilitated by Muchsin Maltezos

Evolving from the experimentation of American postmodern dance in the 1960s, Contact Improvisation was founded by Steve Paxton in 1972. It has been variously described as both a form of dance and a sport. Based upon physical laws such as momentum, gravity, and inertia, it can be characterised by its use of everyday movements, & promotes a healthy awareness of the body & its relationship to the physical world.
